This Sims 2 blog follows the lives of the Nuidya tribespeople of the southern plains, as they try to survive, thrive and figure out what exactly it means to be a dragonspark. Along the way, there'll be drama, romance, utter silliness, high-fantasy worldbuilder rambling and lots of cats. Just watch out for those storm demons - they're sneaky. :)

Renovation Announcement

Once again, Kulo Seeri is rebuilding - and this time it will be better than ever, says tribal leader Kenja Sena Seerijata. Today, I spoke to her and former Apple Valley city planner Li Yoo about their plans for the new hood.

Bad Timing, Autumn 97

Startquarter, Redleaf 22, 97
Angel & Ben are 33, Arek is 2

"Ben! Get in here!"

That sounded painful. If it was the baby... the one that should have arrived two weeks ago... well, then the pancake mixture soaking into the grass mat was a matter for later.

Crushes, Autumn 97

Skyday, Redleaf 10, 97
Claire is 47, Joe is 43, Daniel is 14

Daniel had been spending way too much time with Elle zan-Ace lately. He'd become a man three months ago, and now had an apprenticeship with Elle's uncle. So did she. Since they started working together, Daniel had really got to like her. Too bad it wasn't going to happen.

The Stranger Side of Kulo Seeri

Since it's Halloween today, I thought I'd share my method for dealing with the Nuidya tribe's supernatural and alien heritage across generations.

ROS Autumn 97

I've spent most of Summer 97 in Kulo Seeri sharpening my picture-taking skills (when I remembered to take pictures, that is). Since I still don't have many pictures from Summer, the next part of the Nuidya tribe's story will jump forward to Autumn, which I will start playing as soon as I've finished typing this post.

The ROS for this season's rotation, in no particular order:

Fulfil biggest fear - I don't know what this Sim's biggest fear is yet, which sort of worries me.

Next woohoo results in pregnancy - at least one member of the tribe will probably have it in for me after this one, possibly two or three. *ducks*

Break up with partner - in this case, it was probably on the cards anyway.

Understandable fight - well, if they're going to start fighting among themselves, it does make sense for it to be after they've been in one place for a while, with no storms or rebuilding.

Too Soon, Spring 97

Quarterend, Snowmelt 7, 97
Micro-update

Manewa hadn't been feeling too good lately.

It had hit suddenly, a couple of days ago, after getting back from one of her training sessions with the young would-be hunters and warriors of the tribe. She'd been getting worse since then. Today had mostly been spent coughing and taking potty breaks.

Aurora had told her to stay home and rest. Manewa knew she was right - Aurora was the village's expert on medicines and herbal remedies - but she was starting to go stir-crazy. How long did it take to mix one of those cures, anyway?

That night, one of Manewa's students - Eric zan-Ellen, who had, until recently, also been her stepson - had come over to see how she was. The attention would have been a welcome distraction, but... cats and dogs, she really felt terrible now.

She really hoped Li would be OK on her own.

RIP Manewa Kirikiri

VT says: Not how I wanted to spend my first rotation. This wasn't even an ROS - it was that darn deadly disease mod. Sad face. :(

Newcomer, Spring 97

Fireday, Snowmelt 5, 97
Manewa Kirikiri is 50; Li Yoo is 38

The last few months of what had seemed like endless planning and building had finally paid off.

The Nuidya village of Kulo Seeri had - after almost forty years - developed into something more than a small collection of tents just waiting for another storm to blow them over.

The fact that Apple Valley city planner Li Yoo, who had visited one of the old villages a couple of years ago, had moved to Kulo Seeri permanently had helped the rebuilding efforts a lot - although Li did sort of think that it hadn't actually developed all that much.

It was definitely something completely different to the cities, as she'd told her new roommate Manewa the night before. That was the day the construction had ended, just before the celebration at the park in the village centre.

And - oh yes - just before that bonfire got out of hand, destroying most of the park as well as the unchala (Nuidya shelter) across the road from it. Which just happened to be theirs. At least those shelters weren't too difficult to construct.

When Li had been told that she'd be staying with one of the locals until she settled in, since Nuidya life might take some getting used to, she hadn't quite known what to expect - especially after finding out that the Sim who had volunteered as her roommate was one of the tribal elders. Manewa had surprised her though, turning out to be (as she put it) "a fun-loving young woman who just happens to be fifty", and the two of them were getting to like each other at least a little bit.

That second day, Li had tried to experience a little more of life in Kulo Seeri. Manewa tried showing her how to grind corn, which was hard work and the stuff went everywhere...

... and also borrowed a few of the novels Li had brought, for research purposes, of course.

Everything about the Nuidya seemed strange at first, from their roof-on-poles housing to their clothes (which Li had been told weren't actually furs, just homespun cloth decorated with animal-print patterns, and sure enough there didn't seem to be any leopards around). She'd decided to take their word for it; she wasn't quite ready to go native yet.

Even though they weren't SimNation - and were extremely proud of that fact - it was starting to become clear that they weren't all that different from the Sims Li had known there. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad living in the middle of nowhere after all. They were even talking about getting a couple of computers so the new arrivals could stay in touch with their friends and families back home.

As far as making new friends went, it was still early, although Manewa's son Wolfie did seem to like her.

Maybe a little too much. Li definitely didn't want a repeat of her last visit. She'd have to keep an eye on him.

VT says: Finally, an actual update! Yay!

Coming soon to a blog near you

OK, so I'm in the process of rebuilding (again). This time WILL be the last, and I'm doing it a little differently this time round.

Basically, I wanted to increase the tribal flavour of the hood, so I'm working on a re-design that shows off that side of Nuidya culture, instead of worrying about whether anyone will hate me for not being "modern" or "historical". I'm less paranoid now. ;) Just keep in mind that it will be very different from your standard Sim hood when it's done.

Here, have some preview pics! (The first two are community lots, the third is one of the houses)

This Time For Sure!

OK, no more fooling around. Computer issues, family troubles, brief experiments with TS3 and a whole host of other things have extended my hiatus more than I expected... but I'm just letting anyone who's actually checking know: it ends soon. Kulo Seeri will (hopefully) be back online within the next couple of weeks. I'm working on that as I type.

Returning Soon: The Story So Far...

VT says: I've had Kulo Seeri up and running for a couple of weeks now, but no pics of the first three months while the Nuidya got their lives back on track. I will be back to blogging once I get more snaps and a browser that still plays nice instead of refusing to let me add pics any more. :) Until then, here's a summary of the events of Spring 96:

Since the Great Wrightshead Storm, thirty-one years earlier, the Nuidya tribe have never stayed in one place long. Every settlement they have established since has been destroyed by (admittedly smaller) storms - some older Nuidya blame the vengeful spirit of the second leader of the tribe, known only as "The Arzep" (The Nameless One), a paranoid tyrant whose birth name, Azanni, meant "stormy" in Old Maltiazi. Seven young Sims survived the Great Storm, and this event is commemorated with a great festival (the Teeran ni Azara, or StormFest to you and me XD) every seven years.

After more than thirty years, the Nuidya had more or less accepted that they would end up becoming nomads... until Seeri, the new Kenja (the tribal leader, that is) came up with the idea of returning to the one place that lasted them nearly sixty years: the island where the founders of the tribe had first settled. They have been there for a few months now, and already uncovered late Arzep-era records that were thought to have been destroyed. They learned from those records that the year is actually 96, counted from the founding, and that none of the elders are actually elders yet. (VT says: In other words, I cleared out my room and found old notebooks that told me this stuff)

It is early summer in the new Kulo Seeri. One family has taken in an abandoned baby, found en route to the new village. Three of the women in the village are pregnant. One young couple has recently celebrated their engagement and a second has broken theirs off. The upcoming centenary - which happens to coincide with the year of the fifth Teeran ni Azara - is creating a lot of excitement, even though it's not for another four years yet. The past two months have seen a lot of late-night raids on the food stores; wild animals and lax security are most likely to blame. Two of the teenagers have suddenly developed an intense rivalry, while another of the younger girls has been acting very strangely lately...

Watch this space - the Nuidya will be back soon!

We Are Back! Nearly.

OK, maybe I lied about the next post being a Sim update. Sorry.

Well, after a far-too-extended hiatus and attempting to put my four-and-a-half-year hood behind me, I've decided that no, I can't start something new now.... unless I also have my Nuidya Sims to play. So Kulo Seeri is making a comeback. I can't tell you exactly when but it should be at some point before April 16th, which will be the hood's fifth birthday.

The only other thing I have to say is: Calling all Sims who can stand the thought of living somewhere remote and very low-tech with a culture that is nothing like modern SimNation! Kulo Seeri still needs new blood! Generation Four is growing up fast and by Sena, we can't keep going if we stay a community of relatives only! While we highly doubt anyone will actually be interested in moving to KS, if any Sims in your hood might be, let us know. (Yes, we could just have newcomers moving in out of nowhere, but Kenja Seeri wants us to create links with other hoods, so...)

Back online as soon as possible.
